The Pineal Gland
The pineal gland takes a crucial role in the body, located deep in the center of the brain, and it is also known as the “third eye”. In fact, this gland is believed to be the most magnetic of the entire human body.
Yoga experts link the pineal gland with the Ajna chakra, or third eye.
What does the pineal gland represents to the body?
This gland is a part of the endocrine gland which releases a hormone known as melatonin, which takes a key role in the regulation of biological rhythms like sleep or sexual development. When there is no light the pineal gland secretes melatonin which makes you fall asleep. Plus, it is an antioxidant, boosts the immunity and protects the DNA.
The pineal gland is an endocrine gland, but its function was last identified. Therefore, this could be one of the reasons for various speculations of its role.
There are several theories about the pineal gland. According to the renowned philosopher René Descartes this body part is the seat of the soul as a result of its central location and it is organ that does not need to be paired.
Dr. Rick Strassman is an author of the book The Spirit Molecule who is also a psychologist specializing in the study of the effects of hallucinogens as dimethyltryptamine (DMT), which is a natural narcotic occurring in the body. In the period of 1990 – 1995, Dr. Strassman was researching the possible effects of the DMT otherwise referred to as the “spiritual molecule.” He believed that this spiritual molecule may have a spiritual and religious effect causing visions, sensation of excitement, disembodiment of consciousness, and so on.
In this period of researching, Dr. Strassman has linked the chemical effect of the gland spiritual dimensions conferred by the East. According to his findings, the pineal gland can provide a state of well-being and inner balance.
The Benefits of the Third Eye
The traditional Chinese medicine maintains that the third eye can lower stress, calm the mind, alleviate headaches, and also fight off insomnia.
You can achieve all that just by massaging the point of the body linked to the pineal gland, a technique recognized as acupressure. This technique stimulates different points to unblock the flow of energy and restore balance to the body and mind.
All you have to do is to close your eyes and by using the thumb press the meeting point of the line of the bridge of the nose and the eyebrows. Do the pressing part for 45-60 seconds and then release. Make sure to relax your body and then breathe in slowly and deeply. You can do this as often as possible and very soon you will notice great improvements.
